Ron & Betty Brown

This couple has been in the square and round dance activity for close to 50 years if not more. Ever since many can remember they have been a large part of the dancing at the Woodstock Wheelers Club and others along they way.

Many will know who we are describing as they have given a lot to the activity as a whole. Like many before them they have held many positions over all the years within the club from Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President, President which they have held this position for the longest. They have helped with kitchen duties, making lunches, cleaning up after and always known for his brown bread! Demonstrations at nursing homes or on a float during a parade they were always the first to offer their help.

Square Dancing was not their only love. Round Dancing was another and still remains today. They took lessons in the Woodstock area and as well travelled for many years to Fredericton to dance at Capital City Rounders on Tuesday evenings. There has always been a rumor floating around that she would be sitting outside the bakery or restaurant whatever he had running at the time waiting with his change of clothes so they could get to Fredericton in time. When time allows they still venture to Fredericton to round dance with Terry on Monday evenings.

Round dancing was but only one small part of the dancing career these two had. They along with others took up clogging over the years and he taught several classes along they way through the years to many who had never been in a dance activity before or he knew from a square possibly. His passion for teaching took him to several dances throughout the Maritimes and New England States and he has been known to organize a few bus tours to Nashville and other places to attend the National Clogging Conventions through out the years.

Not to stop there when the question about learning round dancing come up at club one evening before the pandemic took a hold of the activity this couple stepped up again to help out a group in need. Going and setting up an hour early before club started and teaching some easy round dance routines was their next step in the activity. Unfortunately, the pandemic kind of put a damper on the country ballroom dancing as they named it but if the interest arises they will be right back there again raring to get things underway again.

This couple gives their all to the activity and their club as a whole. For the 40th Anniversary they headed up a team that seen a free dance be held that evening along with a catered dinner to close to 150 past and present dancers. An amazing time was had by all who attended and a great event by far.

This couple’s dedication to the activity is outstanding attending most outside special dances throughout NB and the Maritimes if time allowed or hopping across the border even to attend dances in Houlton Presque Isle or Caribou or even farther down when time allowed. His biggest motto was always bring a smile with you or we will put one on you!

Dedication to their community is a big part of who they are. He has been with St John Ambulance services for many years teaching CPR courses whenever the time allows. They also were instrumental in teaching the Miss New Brunswick Pageant Contestants their dance for the talent portion during Old Home Week in Woodstock. A success business man and dedicated to his family and friends this couple certainly deserves a pat on the back for all they have given to the dance activity as whole over their years.

Whether it be on the dance floor at a MCCA Convention, a New England Convention somewhere, some campground with Yogi Bear they give their all to this activity and it is why we feel they are deserving of a Distinguished Service Award. We nominate Ron & Betty Brown and thank them for all their hard work and dedication & know we will see them on the dance floor till they just can’t give no more.
